How to take a hair sample

At this time, a minimum of 125 mg of hair is necessary for the entire mineral determination.

The accuracy and reliability of the test results and the interpretation is based on a sample of hair that is clean and free from external contamination. An ideal hair sample is taken before the hair is exposed to a bleaching, a coloring or a permanent basis. This includes the use of hair sprays, hair creams, gel or oil. The content of the hair should be washed 24 hours before it is cut, and it must be a minimum of dry, at least 4 hours after the use of shampoo. By washing the hair, you should noted whether the shampoos contain no metals. In most shampoos this is the case. However, medicated shampoos should not be used because they negatively affect the analysis. This includes Head and Shoulders (Zinc) and Selsun Blue (selenium) and Grecian Formula (lead and iron).

The hair sample should be taken as close as possible at the scalp, and has a maximum length (may therefore be shorter, not longer) of 4 cm. Hair longer than 4 cm should be cut off and the tip of hair (the part that was farthest away from the scalp) should be discarded. The recommended place where it should be cut is the neck.

It is important to contain the hair sample in an envelope provided by Biocoherence. This envelope is then sent to Biocoherence, to the address printed on the envelope. Do not send the sample in plastic bags or aluminum foil.

Do not stick tape and do not use staples to seal the envelope. Do not mix different hair types, such as hair or beard with pubic hair in one envelope. We recommend a sample from the head because it has a fixed growth rate. Pubic hair and beard should only be used if there is not enough hair available.
