Vitamin D3 analysis consisting of the 2 types of vitamin D3 measurements from serum:

• Vitamin 25 OH
• Active Vitamin 1,25 (OH)2-D3

When we take vitamin D3, we take the inactive form Vitamin D3 (25-OH). The body has to convert this substance itself into the active form (1.25 OH2). The Vitamin D3 receptor is involved in this process. The functioning of this receptor may be disrupted.

The immune system activates vitamin D, so it makes sense to also measure 1.25 OH vitamin D3 in autoimmune diseases. In case of illness it is therefore important not to measure only 25(OH) because a deficiency in it can be the result of the active immune system.
So there is actually no shortage if the 1,25(OH)2 is increased. If one would then supplement with vitamins, there is even the possibility of provoking a cytokine storm.
