How targeted is your treatment?

Treatment of a patient (s) is a process and a process always has a direction and a purpose. As we have mentioned before, the purpose of complementary treatment (CAM) is not only the elimination of the symptoms, but the approach to the cause, which causes the symptoms to disappear.

The following example is a beautiful illustration of the enormous value that the HTMA and HRV have in targeted work on a cautious CAM treatment.

Example:
Imagine a 10 year old girl who is suffering from abdominal pain, headaches and is regularly sick. A substantial therapeutic course has already been taken, both regular and complementary. Extensive studies have been performed on intestinal function, microbial state, digestive parameters, etc. There is usually nothing found to be clinically relevant.
Within the CAM range, all kinds of divergent matters are found and treated and by highly qualified colleagues. However, the result remains.

The HMA of this girl shows the following profile:

For the trained professional, this provides the following information directly:
– Copper intoxication (often causes reduced GABA activity in the brain)
– Very low Potassium value (indicator for sympathetic dominance)
– Very high Calcium / Potassium ratio (so-called thyroid ratio: activity cell-level thyroid change)
– Low sodium and potassium concentration: adrenal weakness

According to the mother, she can relax well. The HRV measurement shows that this is not really the case.
She has performed a 72 hour HRV measurement.
The third day showed the following picture, from the other two days there was one worse (0% recovery) at night and the other slightly better (18% recovery).

A comparison of the RMSSD (average HRV) at night and during the day showed:

RMSSD Meisje

The red line represents the age-dependent minimum HRV (for a person of 10 years it is 26 ms). One of the three measured nights she gets that value, the other two they are below (14 and 23 respectively).

In summary, her energy performance (energy consumption versus recovery) over the 3 measured days (which are representative of her) is as follows:

This chart showed a worrying picture of a sympathetic dominance. In a way you hope to never meet young children.

Conclusion: There is a violent sympathetic dominance with a bad N. vagus function. Since digestion is controlled by the same N. Vagus (parasympathetic system) it is not surprising that problems arise at intestinal level.
It is known that a low N. vagus function may also lead to nausea and headache.

In spite of all findings on intestinal level, if treatment is not aimed at restoring the above-mentioned disturbances (top down thinking), then it’s only “mopping the floor with a leaking tap” and actually does not allow to have the titel ‘holistic’.
